Josef Sudek’s poetic exploration of reproducing objects of art has been the starting point and inspiration of Sabine Reinfeld’s site-specific installation and photography, which she conceived exclusively for the festival.
In connection with Sudek, the artist obsessively examines the topic of reproduction through performative photography. By projecting multiple layers of photo negatives onto herself, Reinfeld is encountering her own body as an object, as well as re-animating Sudek’s archived images. This work process is complemented by self-portraits, shot in the gardens of Atelier Josefa Sudka and Villa Rothmayer, referring to Sudek’s own reproductions of outdoor sculptures. The artist’s body confronts, acts, mediates – a practice Reinfeld describes as a battle of “extreme narcissism versus the intensity of things”.
As a closing event of the exhibition on the 10th of October, Reinfeld will activate the installation and visualize the conception and production process of the work through a live performance.
